Traffic history

Organic traffic history is collected by the "Domain selection" section. In the results table it is shown in the "Traffic" column: a sparkline — a mini chart of monthly traffic — with the average value for the period next to it. Hover over the chart and a tooltip will show the month and the traffic at that point.

The depth of the history is set by the "Period" selector in the "Domain metrics" group of the filter panel: "1 year", "5 years", "10 years", "15 years", "Entire period" and "Custom" — your own range of years. The available depth depends on the metrics source: options deeper than the available data are not shown in the list, and "Entire period" is labelled with the year and month from which the history exists.

Why look at the history

• Stable or growing traffic — the domain is alive and keeping its visibility.
• A sharp collapse — likely a search engine penalty, lost rankings, or a dead site.
• A short spike surrounded by zeros — the typical footprint of a doorway page or artificial traffic.
