How to check

  1. Paste up to five domain names, one per line.
  2. Click Check domains. We follow the live chain and read the index and archive data.
  3. A redirect to another site, a sale page or parking is a sign the domain is not a living site.

What you get

  • Live redirect chain with status codes and the final address.
  • Whether the final page is another site, a sale page or parking.
  • Home page redirects to other sites by crawl of the open web index.
  • Archived redirect snapshots by year.

What the numbers mean

301 / 302 / 307 / 308
Permanent (301, 308) and temporary (302, 307) redirects. A permanent redirect to another site is how a site moves to a new domain.
External
The chain ends on a different site, not the domain itself or its subdomain. www and https upgrades are not external.
Sale page or parking
The final page is a listing of a sale service or a parking page: the domain is for sale or idle.
Redirect snapshots
How many archived snapshots answered with a redirect in each year. A year full of redirects means the site was not serving pages.

Frequently asked questions

Where do past redirects come from?

From the open web index crawls we already collected for this domain and from the archive snapshot list. If the domain was never collected, the crawl part is empty.

Why is the live check empty?

The site did not answer within the timeout or blocked our request. We do not retry endlessly: try again later.

Is a redirect bad?

Not by itself. A permanent move of a real site is fine. A chain of redirects to unrelated sites, sale pages or parking is a sign the domain is being resold or exploited.

How many domains can I check for free?

Five checks of five domains per tool without an account. When they are used up, sign up: you get a trial budget and can check without limits.

What does the full check add?

Redirect targets for every year of the archive, the verdict on whether it was a move or a resale, and the rest of the domain report.
